Stress and Recovery – Weekly Weigh In – May 15

Let me just go ahead and get this out of the way: I gained weight this week!

Could be muscle since I was going hard core after the Ripped in 30 from Jillian Michaels.  Could be something else, like eating too much junk food.

Yep!  I just admitted my over indulgence on fast food and chips.

I have many excuses, of which include the incredible stress I have been under these past few weeks as Daddy Head has been sick.  While the doctor did say he had strep, he still isn’t better, and that has taken its toll on me.  So I just feel off the wagon.

Add to that the nice shin splints I received from the Ripped in 30 program and I have had to take several days off from all exercise.  I am disappointed, but plugging along.  Ripped in 30 and I officially broke up today after I sustained a neck injury from it.  Dumb crunches.

Anyway, I have to take today off from exercise as well, so hopefully tomorrow I can hit the pavement and log in some serious miles on my #52milesinmay goal.  Here is my plan for the next week:

  • Thursday: 3-4 miles
  • Friday: Weight Lifting Class
  • Saturday: Run
  • Sunday: Run
  • Monday: Off
  • Tuesday: Run
  • Wednesday: Weight Lifting Class or Zumba or both

And I will get those pictures taken eventually.  It just hasn’t been on the priority list right now.

Let’s talk:

  • What do you do when you are stressed to curb off over eating?
  • How do you handle an injury?
  • Have you ever had to stop a workout program you really enjoyed because you knew it was hurting more than helping?

Weekend Accountability – Weekly Weigh In – May 8

Let me start off by saying that I am sorry I don’t have my before and after pictures for you.  We have been hit by 3 weeks of sickness and finally discovered yesterday that it was strep.  Poor Daddy Head has been the one mostly taken out and this whole time they missed it.  He literally was tested for everything but strep until yesterday.

Anyway, I will try to get it up next week.  I am truly excited to get the job done on that one.

This week has been a good one.  I am learning what it is like to run in heat and humidity.  Did you know that your time slows down by more than 30 seconds when the temperature rises above 60* F?  I didn’t either until I read Another Mother Runner’s post for today.

Yesterday, I started doing Jillian Michael’s Ripped in 30.  I didn’t think that the exercises were that intense until I woke up this morning sore like last summer.  Add on to that work out 7 miles yesterday, 3 indoors doing a walking DVD and 4 outside with my sister in law, is it any wonder that my scale showed a loss this week:

In keeping up with my Ripped in 30 and #52milesinmay goal, I am going to ask for some extra accountability.  I am beginning to see a trend to my weekend eating.  It seems like my internal mind is telling me that it is the weekend, I can let up.  But I eat way to much junk on the weekends now and I know that is part of my issue with a plateau.

So here is what I am gonna do!  I am going to start taking pictures of my meals on Saturday and Sunday and posting them to Instagram (I’m mommyhead7 if you aren’t already following me).  In turn, they will probably post to Facebook and Twitter, and I will be putting them up here as well on the following weigh ins.

Will you help me stay on top of it?  I am to health now, but I want to get down more.  I am about 10 pounds away from my overall goal and I want to do this.

Will you help me?

Now you tell me:

  • What are you workout goals for the week?
  • What do you need help with in your own health journey?
  • What tip would you like to share with me to help me out?

Almost a Year – Weekly Weigh In – May 1

I can hardly believe that we have been on this journey together for almost a year!  At this point last year I was on the verge of getting clearance from my doctor to begin working out again and I knew some changes were in order.

Thank you so much for cheering me along.  And I think it is only appropriate to celebrate by showing some before and after pictures.

Only, I don’t have any after pictures yet.  So come back next week to see the transformation that has taken place on me.

That being said, its time for the scale.  I have to tell you that we are under some changes in our household.  We will be night weaning Ben here soon, so my scale numbers may fluctuate depending on how quickly I can get him up to nurse in the morning.  That is why this week there should have been more of a loss, but the nursing.

We also were hit with a major bug last week which took me off of my workout plan for the week.  I did get some good runs in and finished out just over 50 miles total.  For the month of May, I am aiming at 50 to 52 miles.  And hopefully we will get on that weight lifting routine that I have been trying.

With us possibly traveling this coming weekend, I don’t have a plan to show you.  But I can tell you, due to some health issues, it appears that Daddy Head and I will be trying out a wheat free diet.  I hope to share with you how that goes in the coming weeks.

That being said, I need to head out for now.  Ryan is in the middle of therapy and I really should be paying attention Winking smile

Before I go, tell me what your biggest workout accomplishment has been lately.

Fitness Ramblings – Weekly Weigh In – April 24

Today, I just feel like rambling.  Being just a tad sleep deprived due to Daddy Head’s traveling and then a sickness that hit our house, I don’t really know what else to do…

Here’s a look at my scale for one:

For not sleeping much for 2 weeks, only being up a pound is not bad.  I have also started lifting weights again, so I am sure that has some to do with the shift.  Now if some of the soreness would go away and I could feel a little more rested, then we could move on with the program.

I also told you last week in my short post that I hit a PR in my 5k the Saturday before last.  I am pretty impressed with myself:

With summer quickly approaching, I am re-evaluating my goals and such.  I can hardly believe that I have being doing these Weekly Weigh In’s for almost a year now!  I really should post some before and after photos to encourage myself that it is making a difference.

Anyway, summer goals.  I want to get back into the habit of lifting weights, so I jumped into the Busy Mom Gets Fit 12 week 3 day program.  I hope to check it out a little more and then maybe do a giveaway for one.  Wouldn’t that be fun?

I also want to keep up my running.  So for now, I am hoping to do an every other day lifting and running rotation.  Hopefully I can make that work.  Here is what my week will look like:

  • Thursday: Back & Shoulders with a little run
  • Friday: Arms & Chest
  • Saturday: Run
  • Sunday: Rest
  • Monday: Legs & Butt
  • Tuesday: Run
  • Wednesday: Back & Shoulders with Zumba in the evening

I hope to kick things in high gear.  I want to get these last 10 pounds off, people!  And I could use your encouragement Winking smile

Anyway, I hope you are all having a wonderful, glorious day.  Excuse me while I check it for a little rest before Benjamin wakes up… I think I hear him now

No Words – Weekly Weigh In – April 17

Wow!  In light of everything that happened on Monday in Boston, posting about 5k pr’s and workout plans just seems trivial.  So, in order to give respect to those involved, I am just going to post my weigh in picture:

Come back next week for a better update.
