Putting a Stop to Clutter: DVD Organization

DVD organization

This month, I have been reading the book Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider in order to prepare for Baby Benana to make his/her arrival sometime in April.  As I was reading this book, I came across an incredible idea on how to take care of one of our biggest places of clutter:

DVD organization

Bear and Lion love to watch Signing Time DVD’s.  The problem is, they like to pull out ever DVD we own to to get to them.  And they are in the wrong place, half the time.

So my solution:

DVD organization

I bought a 24 CD holder from our local store and used masking tape to label where each DVD goes.  That way we can find whichever one we are looking for:

My plan is to buy at least 2 more: one for my workout DVD’s and one for my regular DVD’s.

What home organizational ideas have you implemented lately?

What I Do: Top 10 Tips for Prepping a Nursery #SeventhGeneration

With a new little one due to arrive sometime at the beginning of April, I know and understand that it is never to early to start thinking about how to prepare for the new baby.  With both Bear and Lion, I began thinking from the time I received that first positive pregnancy test about names, bedrooms and all the essentials that I would need in order to give them a good start in life.

So, I was thinking, why not chronicle my thoughts now, so that when time draws near for Baby #3 to arrive, I will not be running around trying to remember all the things that need to be done!  And what better place to write it all down than here, for any other expecting mom reader to get some great ideas herself?

All right then!  Without further adieu, here is my top 10 tips for prepping a nursery.

1.  Have a clear path to the dresser - In our house, we do a lot of room sharing.  This means that the toy room is also the bedroom which also houses the dresser!  And with children as young as I have, there are toys everywhere!  So, keep a clear path so you don’t trip.

2.  Make your choice early on either cloth or disposable diapers - This one is a hard one for me.  I made the switch to cloth with Bear when she was almost two, and ended up going back because the system didn’t suit me.  I am currently trying to choose what we will do with Baby #3, and at the moment we are thinking maybe a mix.  Either way, the sooner you make the choice, the more money it will save you in the long run.

3.  Every diaper is not the same – This goes along with the last tip.  Find the diaper that works for your child.  What worked for Bear didn’t work for Lion.  And, if I may make suggestion, check out Seventh Generations Free & Clear diapers.  They do not use the same harmful chemicals as other diapers do and are free of chlorine, latex, fragrances and petroleum-based lotions, which is better for baby and our environment.

4.  If there is a rash, check the diaper wipes – My sister in law was dealing with some raw bottom on my niece when she was first born.  She realized very quickly that some wipes can cause some weird reactions.  She had to change brands in order to find one that would keep her baby’s bottom fresh.  Here is another place to check out Seventh Generation and their Free & Clear wipes, which are soft like cloth wipes!  Without those harsh chemicals, they are sure to keep that bottom from being red!

5.  Hand sanitizer is your friend – As we head into cold and flu season, don’t be afraid to give people a squirt when they head towards your baby.  Or you could have a hand washing station set up in your home.  That or just tell them no touching!

6.  Have a good place to keep diaper changing supplies – This is vital.  With both kiddos, I had specific places I kept diapers in different rooms.  That way, no matter where I was, I had a place to change baby when needed.  They make really cute baskets for this too!

7.  Make sure the crib and other gear is safe – Be sure to check out the web for safety recalls.  This being said, don’t use big brother or sister’s hand me down crib if it has a drop side.  These have been outlawed!

8.  When it comes to baby bottom cream, buy a brand you can trust – Not that the generic brands are bad, but I can tell you from personal experience that is better just to pay more.  I mean, if the cream doesn’t stay put, it isn’t protecting the bottom!

9.  Have your own organization system – And then work your system!  If you have certain drawers for onesies, keep them there.  And if your system doesn’t work, find one that does!  It will save you a headache later.

10.  What is a tip you would add?  Please share it with me in the comments!  I need all the help I can get with this pregnancy brain of mine!

Family Friday: Drop-it-not to the Rescue! {Review}

mommy lifesaver

I promised you that I would tell you about my trip to Amish Country this week, but due to the fact that I was unable to take my camera on the trip, I don’t really have pictures to share.  So, until Daddy Head’s Gram gets back with her camera so I can snag some pictures, I thought I would tell you about something great that turned into a lifesaver on that trip.

Isn't it the cutest thing?!

The Drop-It-Not was a my extra set of hands while I was on my last two vacations.  This precious little tether was invented by Martha in order to make for safer travels for parents.  Here is what her website says:

Martha invented the Drop-It-Not out of pure frustration, when driving her beautiful 1 year old grandniece to the aquarium. Sara, continuously dropped her toy and/or bottle on the floor. Stressing about hearing her cry, Martha would take her seat belt off and turn her head to see where the toy was. She would then have to reach down to retrieve the toy and give it to Sara.

After picking up her toy and bottle several times, Martha started thinking of the danger of driving and taking your eyes off the road. She thought about how many mothers  put themselves and their kids in harms way every day. So, she decided she’d had enough. She needed to do something about it. She had to find the solution to this problem.

The solution…… The DROP-IT-NOT. When hung on the seat belt of the car seat it will hold your baby’s things next to your child preventing them from going on the floor. The Drop-It-Not holds 2 items and is very easy to attach and detach. Kids love the colorful monkey.

I used my Drop-It-Not on our stroller to hold toys for Lion.  He is in that stage of dropping everything to see where it went and I, honestly, was tired of cleaning toys.  The Drop-It-Not became my instant go to helper.

The velcro that holds the toys on was super sturdy and no matter what Lion did with his toys, they didn’t hit the ground!  Score.

I totally recommend the Drop-It-Not to mommies out there and plan to suggest one to my sister-in-law after she has her baby.  I think that every mom should have one.

Interested in buying a Drop-It-Not.  Be sure to check out their website for ordering information.  Be sure to tell them that Mommy Head Adventures sent you ;)

Where Did the Day Go??? {And my Guest Post over at Family and Life in LV}

Where did the day go
Where did the day go

I just happened to look at the clock and realized how late it was!  Where did my day go?

Lion didn’t sleep well last night.  I had great plans of waking up early before his therapy and getting some work done.

It didn’t happen.

I woke up just before therapy and lazily sat on my couch, doing nothing!  I woke Lion up with his developmental therapist got here.

He did fine.

Then I tried to exercise, but Bear needed my attention.

Then her therapy began at 11:30am.

It finished, and then we had lunch.

And here I sit, typing in my pj’s and not having hardly anything accomplished for my day!

Can someone redo the last few hours for me?

Have you ever found yourself asking where your day went?  What did you do?

Oh, and while I am at it, head over to Family and Life in Las Vegas and check out my guest post!
