Ever since Bear was 6 months old, we have had various therapists come out to our house. Because of her diagnosis of Infantile Spasms, we needed all the help we could get. And we have a great Early Intervention program in our area, which has been a huge help.
She has had developmental therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. We even had a behavioral therapy assessment, but thankfully, she didnt qualify for those services
When we first started therapy, we had developmental and physical therapy. Later, when baby Lion was on the way, we changed it up to physical and speech therapy. And, just recently, we had another change.
Now, Bear will be receiving her weekly speech therapies, but instead of the dreaded physical therapy, we will be doing developmental again. The reason for this is that we no longer have occupational therapy in our area, which she desperately needs! Plus, since she has done so well in physical therapy, they felt that it was time to quit torturing her meeting with her. That is fine with us.
We went to St Louis this past Tuesday and had a occupational therapy evaluation and found that she had a huge delay. This is unfortunate, but thankfully we now have a plan to overcome her delay. It means heading to St Louis once a month for a session and assignment. I will then give that to our developmental therapist and she will help us to work on the skills she needs.
Yes, this is a lot of driving, but it is worth it to build up the skills she needs to function. And, honestly, I think a change will be good for her and our family.
What is new with your family these day? Anything fun happening?
