Cannot Do it Alone – 31 day insecurity fast

jesus sand

Today I am going to share with you the main scripture that I have been focusing on.  This scripture has been so eye opening and is the true basis of freedom that I am getting in this season of my fast from insecurity.

For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.  For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.  For in fact the body is not one member but many.  But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.  Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.  – 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, 20, 27

Here’s the deal about this whole fasting from insecurity thing…you can’t do it on your own.  Sure, you can try really hard to be free from it, and you might even go a few days without thinking about it, but if you do not have Jesus to guide your through by His Holy Spirit, you will never get free.  And if you don’t have Jesus, then this scripture doesn’t really make sense.  In order to be His body, you have to be submitted to Him.

Ultimately, Jesus is the source, the Word of God (John 1:1) that pulls us through.  So, before we go any deeper, I want to give you the opportunity to receive Christ.  Have you submitted the Lordship of your life to Him?  If not, you can do that right now!  Just simply stop what you are doing and confess your sins, believing that He is faithful and just to forgive your sins and to cover them with His shed blood.

And for those of you on this journey with me who know you need Him on your side, you can start it all out by praying this prayer:

Dear Jesus, I know that I have been struggling with insecurity and I have been fighting against it in my own strength.  I can see that I can’t do it on my own.  I am asking for your grace in this season to overcome.  Come, Holy Spirit, and be my guide.  Help me to get through this.  I submit this fast to you.  Thank you!

Now that we have prayed that prayer, be sure to come back tomorrow to see how being a part of the body of Christ is exactly what we need to get free from insecurity.

  1. I’ve also learned that a fast like this helps to have accountability with another believer (whether they’re doing it or not). Often times knowing you’re going to have someone ask how you’re doing with it can help you steer away from falling.
