Learning to Talk with Singing Time: Signing Time On Demand Review and iPad Sweepstakes

When we learned about Bear’s 14 q 12 microduplication and all the possible side effects, we knew we had a battle to fight over her ability to talk and to communicate.  We were told that she may never talk, but were encouraged that she had learned a few signs and began saying a few words at that point.

It wasn’t until I spoke about this on Facebook and to her speech pathologist that I learned about Rachel Coleman and Signing Time.

Signing Time was birthed with Emmy Award nominated Rachel Coleman and her sister decided that there had to be an easy way to teach their family how to communicate with Rachel’s daughter, Leah, who was deaf.  And when they took the original songs that Rachel and her sister wrote and put them on video, they realized that they could also teach children every where, special needs or not, how to communicate using sign language.

Targeted at helping children with speech delays, Down syndrome and other special needs learn to use sign language to help others know their needs, these DVD’s have been instrumental in helping children of all backgrounds and ages learn to speak using sign language.

And if you have came into my home any time in the last year, you know that the theme song is often playing or being sang in the background.  And Hannah has even memorized the signs and will sing and sign to make Bear laugh and smile.

Bear and Lion love these videos and wake up first thing in the morning begging to watch them.  And it has been so aweome to see them both learn to communicate with me.  Bear has learned how to say so many words and even is learning to read some of those words because of this amazing program.  And Lion has some basic knowledge of signs to tell me what he needs when he needs it.

I am excited to see what Banana will pick up as he grows.

Signing Time recently released their Signing Time On Demand, which allows you to download their videos right to your computer or iPad for continual viewing.  This way, you never have to worry about losing a DVD, having them scratched, or having to have Internet access to watch your videos.

Signing Time On Demand will help out my family so much in the coming months as we travel for vacation because I will not have to drag along our entire collection.  We just have to take Daddy Head’s computer or my iPod Touch and they can watch all they want.  What a great way to keep the kids brushed up on their skills.  And because the videos are downloaded on the hard drive, no worries about streaming or slow playing.  Their special player allows the videos to play perfectly!

Right now, if you head over to the Signing Time Website, download their On Demand player and get their free video, Welcome to Signing Time, you will be entered into a contest to win an iPad 3 with the entire collection of Signing Time on it.  And if you purchase any videos, every $5 is another entry.

You can find Signing Time on Facebook and Twitter.  Be sure to give them a like or follow and tell them I sent you.

Disclosure: I was provided with one free video to download in order to try out the On Demand player for the sake of this review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

  1. We are huge fans of Rachel and Signing Time. Both my girls have learned so much from these videos. I can’t even describe the feeling of seeing Molly use signs to tell me what she wants/needs. I’ll have to check out the Signing Time On Demand programs – that would be great for us!
