Bear Blows Kisses

Last Wednesday was Bear’s first visit with her developmental therapist, Tammy, after a super long extended break.  We were all very anxious to see how she would respond after not really working with Tammy for about a year.  Little did we know the treat that was in store.

Tammy came in right as we were finishing our lunch.  Bear saw her, and immediately began begging for more food.  I could tell that Bear was stalling so finally I said she had had enough.

Tammy jumped right at the opportunity to entice Bear with some toys.  She pulled out the Fisher-Price teapot and my honest thought was, “fat chance!”

Bear walked right up to the toy and began pouring cups of tea and putting the snack pieces in the appropriate places!  My jaw dropped.  How come she won’t do that for me?

After playing with that toy awhile, Bear had a blast playing with the piggy bank toy that Tammy brought.  I sat there just amazed through the whole process.  I could hardly believe my eyes.

Then Bear did something she has never, ever done before.

Tammy started packing up and writing up the report when Bear began waving goodbye.  And then she did it!

She kissed her hand and then blew.  She started blowing Tammy kisses!  And she hasn’t stopped since.  Every time we go to leave, she waves bye and then blows kisses.

Therapy went better than I could have imagined!  Way to go, Bear!  Just, please be careful who you blow those kisses to ;)

OK, so I just teared up a little bit. I’m not quite sure why. I guess I just know that feeling of being proud of your kids, and how wonderful it feels. It sounds like Bear had an awesome visit with Tammy! And who doesn’t love catching a kiss from an adorable little one? Way to go Bear!

Thanks so much for linking up with us today!

My son goes to therapy weekly. And they have the piggy bank toy at his therapist too! He loved it on Monday, and pulled up to get back to it! (that was the goal!)

This just melts my heart :) Little ones blowing kisses and therapy going well… seriously, a dream come true.

  6. How wonderful! I too am a huge fan of blowing kisses. It’s so darn cute when my 2yo niece does it! At that point, she could get me to do anything! :)

but I went back and read Bear’s story…wow…
I too have a daughter with developmental delays-she has Down Syndrome-so reading about a crazy awesome day in therapy brings tears of joy to my eyes for you…it’s so amazing watching these children grow and learn…
although, of course, I would never pretend to understand what you and your husband went through-we had the knowledge prior to Brooke’s birth, and all of a sudden your world was turned upside down out of no where…I can’t imagine that…
But hooray for leaps and bounds!

  8. How sweet!
We were visiting my brother and sister-in-law a few months ago…the first time we’d seen them since their late miscarriage. :-( Anyway, as I was putting Katie down to bed while we were there, she blew my sister in law a bunch of kisses. She hasn’t blown kisses in FOREVER. I guess she just knew who really needed them. :-)
